Was it worth it?

Back in August I shared a post about Disney’s Photopass and Photopass+. Since returning home from my vacation I’ve had several people ask me what I thought of the new Photopass+ service and whether it was worth it.

Firstly the price….by pre-ordering the Photopass+ package before my vacation it cost $169.95, which I must confess is expensive for a bunch of holiday snaps on a cd. But I think it’s the extras that make it worth it for me.

Not only do you get the Photo Gallery cd with the Disney ‘stock’ photos on it but I love being able to use the Photopass website to edit my own photos before ordering them on the second disc. You can zoom in, crop, change the colour, add borders (including ones for special events) and dates….and there’s no limit to how many times you recreate a photo. I chose one of ours from Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and reproduced it six times with different borders! And you can do all this with the attraction photos too…

Speaking of attraction photos…this is the main highlight of Photopass+ for me. We were riding attractions just so we could get another photo added to our card. It was great fun looking for our photo on the screen and knowing that whatever it was like we would be getting a copy. Also, digital copies of attraction photos are added to your Photopass account so that you can download those straightaway, without waiting for your cd to arrive in the mail.

Unfortunately we were only eating at one of the restaurants on the list where you would get a dining photo as part of the Photopass+ package. But I was pleasantly surprised when we turned up at Chef Mickey’s for breakfast and were told that not only did the arrival photo get added to our card but we also got a printed version in the Chef Mickey’s presentation folder at no extra cost!

I was a little disappointed with the ‘lanyard’ used to hold the Photopass+ card. I think at the price paid Disney could afford to provide a nicer piece of material; even if it had the Photopass logo on it, it would have looked more like a standard lanyard and we would have been more happy to show it off.

I had also hoped that the sight of a Photopass+ card would have encouraged more interaction from Photopass photographers. By having the card it indicates that you have already pre-purchased the cd and therefore must be keen to have photos taken in the parks and capture those special memories. Unfortunately we saw very little acknowledgement of the fact that we had already handed over $169 for the package and the majority of the enthusiasm for the photos came from us.

After queuing up to have our pictures taken with various characters, just because we could add them to our card, we even commented that wouldn’t it be nice if the Photopass+ package gave you some kind of ‘fastpass’ for the character meet and greets….it would certainly add to the list of reasons to pick it up.

So….was it worth it? To me….yes….but I do admit that it is an expensive treat. And one only worth getting if you are going to fill that disc with a LOT of pictures that will help you remember that magical vacation for years to come.

I’m now waiting for the finished disc to arrive in the mail and cannot wait to share some of those memories with you in the coming weeks. :)

And over at Walt Disney World there has been a lot of new detail coming out about the Fantasyland expansion…not long now until our daydreams become a reality with that!! :)

A year of daydreams!

During this week of celebration I wanted to look back at some of the posts which I have shared over the past 12 months.

I know that when I discover a new Disney blog I tend to read the first couple of posts and the ‘About Me’ page; unfortunately when the blog has been running for a while you don’t always have time to go back and read some of the older entries.

So here’s my selection of posts which have been the most fun to write and share with you all. I hope that they still give you that few minutes of Disney filled daydreaming!

Expo Exposure – discussing the fun from the D23 Expo in Disneyland.

Sharing My Celebration – my favourite place outside of Walt Disney World.

Let It Snow! – sometimes getting to WDW can be an adventure.

A Letter to Walt – discussing the events of 2011 with our dear Walt.

Home Sweet Home! – making the ‘resort’ decision.

Orange Tuesday – welcoming back the Orange Bird.

I’ve Got The Key! – going behind the scenes at WDW.

See you tomorrow for more Daydreaming Disney!!!!

Thank Disney it’s Friday – July 20!

Well hello Friday!!

After my great find in that second-hand bookshop earlier this week I feel like having some nostalgic fun today….

Here’s your Friday question….

Which do you prefer…..Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress or Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room? And of course…why???

I must confess I haven’t visited either of these attractions in a very long time; something which I aim to change in October!!!

Don’t forget to watch out for next week’s posts celebrating the first birthday of Daydreaming Disney, including an extra special Thank Disney it’s Friday!!!!!

X marks the spot!

Back in August 2011 I wrote about finding a Disneyland ticket book at a flea market in New York. If there’s one thing I love more than Disney shopping…it’s Disneyana shopping!!!

Now I know that thanks to Ebay we have the ability to purchase wonderful examples of Disney history for our collections but it’s almost too easy. Isn’t it much more fun when you have to look for these things; searching every thrift store, jumble sale and charity shop? I’m always hoping that someone will have discarded something that no one else will notice, and that something is just sitting there waiting to be found by a Disney fan like me.

Yesterday we took a drive out to our favourite seaside town. We try to take at least one day-trip here every summer, usually enduring the delightful British weather…i.e. rain!

Our first stop is always a second-hand book shop tucked away in a residential street. Now I use the term ‘shop’ loosely as the place is actually just an old house filled from floor to ceiling with books! The smell of old books, dust and damp hits you as you walk through the front door. Each room is sectioned off by narrow rows of bookshelves; which are overflowing, books are piled at all angles on every surface, including the floor.

If you were to look at every book in that shop you would be there for hours so on each visit I head straight to the children’s section in the hope of finding a quirky little Disney book.

Up until yesterday each visit would end the same. I would look through the books, trying to ignore the cobwebs and damp smell, and not find anything that really caught my eye. I would try to summon up the courage to ask the shopkeeper if he had any travel or guide books relating to Disneyland or Walt Disney World, but I would always chicken out at the last-minute, thinking that he would laugh at my request.

And so…back to yesterday… The same scenario as many times before. Looking through the first shelves in the children’s area. A row of books lying on their sides, too big to stand upright on the shelf. I moved the book that had been placed on top of them so that I could read the full titles. A quick scan, the word ‘Disney’ caught my eye, not particularly unusual for all the Disney annuals in the place, but something made me look at that book again, something made me pull the book out from the shelf so that I could read the full title…and there in my hands was this….

I had found A WALT DISNEY WORLD BOOK!!!!!!!! Not only had I found one but it was in perfect condition and only £3!!!! Inside my head I was doing the happy dance. After years of searching the shelves of this damp old house, after years of hoping, I had found my treasure and the rush of excitement is waaaay better than pressing that ‘buy’ button on Ebay!!

The book isn’t dated but looking at the attractions and resorts featured it’s easy to date as late 1989 / early 1990. I’m guessing it’s not a particularly rare book if you went to WDW during that time but if you love old-fashioned Walt Disney World as much as I do then it’s a great find.

I like the how ‘glossy’ the book is and love the colouring of the photos. It’s great fun to look at what the people in the photos are wearing; its difficult to believe that it’s already 23 years old!

It’s strange to look at what’s not mentioned in the book because they haven’t arrived in the parks or on property yet, such as resorts like Port Orleans or the Yacht and Beach Club.

So there you have it; you might not get a treasure map to help you but it’s always worth searching for Disney hidden treasure…..you never know what you might find! :)

Thank Disney it’s Friday – July 6!

Well the weather here in the UK has been so strange this week; high humidity, clouds and rain. It reminded me of summer afternoons in Walt Disney World, just without the ponchos and Disney spirit!!! ;)

I found myself daydreaming about water in the parks this week so here’s your Friday question………..

Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids…..which ‘wet’ attraction do you prefer and of course why???

And…here’s a bonus question….the wearing of ponchos on water rides…..yes or no???
